Thought for the day 10th of July

No day is โ€˜just another dayโ€™. Every day is special and unique, and you only get one shot at it.

This is your first and only 10th of July 2013, so make the most of it! ๐Ÿ™‚

Today is summer solstice!

6 months ago I wrote about how it was winter solstice in the northern hemisphere, and summer solstice in the southern hemisphere. Today it is summer solstice in the northern hemisphere and winter solstice in the southern hemisphere ๐Ÿ™‚

Today is the longest and shortest day of the year across the world!

My article on winter solstice explained what the solstice means so I donโ€™t really know what to write today!

Enjoy your day wherever you are โ€“ be it the longest or shortest!

Today is winter solstice!

You might not know it, but if you live in the Northern Hemisphere, today is the shortest day of the year. Okay the day is the same length as any other day of the year (24 hours) but the amount of time that it will be light, should be the least of any day all year โ€“ this obviously depends on cloud cover though.

If you live in the Southern Hemisphere however, you will be experiencing your summer solstice today, meaning the most light all year!

The further away from the equator you get, the less extreme the light change, some places will hardly get dark today, whilst others will have only minutes of light.

From now on it will start getting lighter in the Northern Hemisphere, and darker in the Southern Hemisphere. On the 21st of June, the solstices will be reversed.

Probably not the most important thing in your life today, but hopefully something new to add to your trophy cabinet of knowledge!

Enjoy your solstice, whichever you have ๐Ÿ™‚
