Merry Christmas!

Billions of people around the world today will be celebrating the Christian festival of Christmas. On this day Christians mark the birth of the founder of the religion – Jesus Christ.

Merry Christmas!

Father Christmas (A.K.A. Santa Claus/Saint Nicholas) is commonly associated with the festival in many countries. He is the bringer of gifts, perceiving whether someone has been good or bad throughout the year and giving them a present/presents reflecting that. In France they have a similar character known as Papá Noel/Père Noël, in Iceland he is known as Jólasveinn, Joulupukki in Finland etc.

Father Christmas

I want to wish everyone a very merry Christmas, I hope you have a really great time!

Merry Christmas! 😀

Its nearly Christmas!

Its only “three sleeps ’till Santa” so what better way to get in the festive spirit than to try out my new festive animation!

Its only three sleeps till Santa

Last year I made a similar animation and posted it on my technology and social blogs, but this year it can be found on my website and three blogs.

I hope you have a great Christmas and a fantastic new year – now sit back, relax and watch the snow fall!

Let it snow!

Christmas has really started now, the countdown is on, so just to add to the festive spirit, I have added some snow to my blog! On every page (except the admin area) you can now see snow drifting down from above, giving my blog a truly Christmas feeling 🙂

Christmas 2010
I have used a plugin called “Let It Snow!” which has a very tidy interface, with all the settings you could possible want to fiddle with. If you have any comments on the snow, like its too fast, not enough, too slow etc. please tell me, and I will see what I can do to fix it.

Everyone all around the world is getting set for Christmas 2010, it looks like its going to be a good 🙂

Merry Christmas everyone and Happy New Year! 😀

The beginning of Advent

Today is the traditionally the first day of Advent. Advent is the closest Sunday to the 30th of November, which this year falls today on Sunday the 28th of November.

Advent is the period which leads up to the Christian festival of Christmas. Many Advent customs involve counting the days until Christmas begins. In modern times this is marked (especially among children) with the opening of a door on an advent calendar, which, depending on the calendar, may reveal a picture, piece of chocolate etc.

A Christmas scene - including a Christmas tree

Some churches display a wreath for advent which bears five candles, one for each of the four Sundays leading up to Christmas Day, and then one for Christmas day itself – sometimes the wreath only bears four candles.

Many people will put there Christmas decorations up around this time of year, whilst others wait until the night before Christmas. Not all Christian families decorate their homes, but it is common.

Here are two great quotes to start the Christmas countdown

“Remember, this December, that love weighs more than gold.” – Josephine Dodge Daskam Bacon

i.e. Love is greater than any gift you could ever possibly receive 🙂

“It is Christmas in the heart that puts Christmas in the air.” – W. T. Ellis

i.e. You must ‘feel’ the festival, for the festival to be a festival!
